This formulation complements the one we have already seen; and taken together, the two reveal the meaning of “the Lord’s Day” within a single theological vision which fuses creation and salvation.
The Sabbath precept, which in the first Covenant prepares for the Sunday of the new and eternal Encicljca, is therefore rooted in the depths of God’s plan. In Portuguese, the days are named in the same way. The Eucharist is the full realization of the worship which humanity owes to God, and it cannot be compared to any other religious experience.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch writes: Each community, gathering all its members for the “breaking of the bread”, becomes the place where the mystery of the Church is encicljca made present. Start by satisfying his hunger, enciflica then with what is left you may adorn the encuclica as well”. Today, as in the heroic times of the beginning, many who wish to live in accord with the domlni of their faith are being faced with difficult situations in various parts of the world.
As the day of Resurrection, Sunday is not only the remembrance of a past event: Saint Basil speaks of “holy Sunday, honoured by the Lord’s Resurrection, the first fruits of all the other days”; 16 and Saint Augustine calls Sunday “a sacrament of Easter”.
The Christian community thus comes to a renewed awareness of the fact that all things were created through Christ cf. Clearly, much depends on those who exercise the ministry of the word. Beyond particular ritual forms, which can vary in time depending upon Church discipline, there remains the fact that Sunday, as a weekly echo of the first encounter with the Risen Lord, is unfailingly marked by the joy with which the disciples greeted the Master: Therefore, in commemorating the day of Christ’s Resurrection not just once a year but every Sunday, the Church seeks to indicate to every generation the true fulcrum of history, to which the mystery of the world’s origin and its final destiny leads.
Lived in this way, not only the Sunday Eucharist but the whole of Sunday becomes a great school of charity, justice and peace.

Through Sunday rest, daily concerns and tasks can find doomini proper perspective: The Sunday obligation As I have noted elsewhere, among the many activities of a parish, “none is as vital or as community-forming as the Sunday celebration of the Lord’s Day and his Eucharist”. At the “completion” of God’s work, the world is ready for human activity.
Speaking vividly as it does of “renewal” and “detachment”, the interruption of the often oppressive rhythm of work expresses the dependence of man and diies cosmos upon God. The texts of Sacred Scripture never address the question of deliberate abortion and so do not directly and specifically condemn it.
At the pastoral level, therefore, everything has to be done to ensure that the Sacrifice of the Mass is made available as often as possible to the faithful who are regularly deprived of it, either by arranging the presence of a priest from time to time, encicpica by taking every opportunity to organize a gathering in a central location accessible to scattered groups.
As I wrote in my Encyclical Laborem Exercensthe first chapters of Genesis constitute in a sense the first “gospel of work”. In countries where Christians are in the minority and where the festive days of the calendar do not coincide with Sunday, it is still Sunday which remains the Lord’s Day, the day on which the faithful come together for the Eucharistic assembly.
AAS 74; It is also true that both in mission countries and in countries evangelized long ago the lack of priests is such that the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist cannot always be guaranteed in every community.
As the Second Vatican Council recalls, the Church wished to extend throughout the year “the entire mystery of Christ, from the Incarnation and Nativity to the Ascension, to the day of Pentecost and to the waiting in blessed hope for the return of the Lord.
The “weekly Easter” thus becomes, in a sense, the “weekly Pentecost”, when Christians relive the Apostles’ joyful encounter with the Risen Lord and receive the life-giving breath of his Spirit.
As in every Eucharistic celebration, the Risen Lord is encountered in the Sunday assembly at the twofold table of the word and of the Bread of Life. Clement of Alexandria, StromataVI, Catholic Church and abortion.

This would now be a characteristic distinguishing Christians from the world around them. In the light of this constant and universal tradition, it is clear that, although the Lord’s Day is rooted in the very work of creation and even more in the mystery of the biblical “rest” of God, it is nonetheless to the Resurrection of Christ that we must look in order to understand fully the Lord’s Day.
AAS 39 Emblem of the Holy See. It is then that man enters the depths of God’s “rest” and can experience a tremor of the Creator’s joy when, after the creation, he saw that all he had made “was very good” Gn 1: With Mary, they learn to stand at the foot of the Cross, offering to the Father the sacrifice of Christ and joining to it the offering of their own lives. The Roman Senator is praised because, by combining participation in the Eucharist with distribution of food to the poor, he in a sense reproduced the Gospel miracle.
